Federica Di Carlo (1984) is a visual artist who works between Milan and Rome. Her works have been exhibited in national and international museums and collections. Observing the balance of the world is the basis of Federica Di Carlo's research, which investigates the relationship between human being and nature, boundaries, environment, power, the unknown, measuring their mutual connections and disconnections in poetic form, often collaborating with scientists and physicists from various research centers around the world to create of her works. Her works are often presented as complex systems that always cross the three absolute boundaries - sea - sky - cosmos; characterized by a wide range of natural elements, inanimate things, physical phenomena and technologies; her exhibitions are conceived as interconnected worlds, where each work is a continuation an implementation of the other. They are permeable symbologies, sometimes contingent and often with a part of the work entrusted to the control of nature and not the artist, which the viewers witness through their senses to complete the process of the work. She does not use a specific media, but often builds worlds to be immersed in, as in his environmental installations, where an element such as light becomes matter to be modulated, to be molded through knowledge and study of physical laws.
Federica Di Carlo was the winner of the Italian Council (10th edition, 2021) with the project “Ti guarderò bruciare” (“I Will Watch You Burn”), promoted by the international promotion program for Italian art by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture. She collaborated with major international scientific experiments: ITER, the project to create a Sun on Earth, and the laser-guided artificial star developed by ESO (European Southern Observatory), INAF (National Institute for Astrophysics), the Astronomical Observatory of Rome, and IAC (Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute).
In October 2024, she exhibited her environmental installation “I See, I See” in front of the Pyramids of Giza as the Italian representative for the international exhibition Forever Is Now – 4th edition.

Project for Volcanic Attitude
Heat and solitude are the chemical and emotional reactions, both internal and external, of Federica Di Carlo's performance.
Drawing inspiration from volcanologists’ sampling techniques and the myth of the god Vulcan—after whom the Vulcano island is named—the performance "Heat and Solitude" seeks to measure, through both a scientific and an artistic gesture, the condition of solitude in contemporary society as compared to the natural solitude of the volcano.
The same solitude experienced by the artist during the creative process and by the volcanologist during scientific observation merges with gases, vapors, and minerals, transforming with the audience into a collaborative work of six hands.
