Alessandro Manfrin is a visual artist; he currently lives and works in Milan. In 2021, he completed his studies in visual arts at the IUAV University of Venice.
Drawing on observations of the urban context, Alessandro Manfrin’s research highlights the unintended consequences produced by the cities in which we live.
Through architecture, everyday life, and recycled materials, his work explores the contemporary condition of living, employing a variety of media, from video and sculpture to sound and photography.
Projects for Volcanic Attitude
Alessandro Manfrin was artist in residence at Volcanic Attitude 2025, and for this edition, he develops two reflections on the nature of volcanic sites and how they are experienced. Two actions aimed at altering visual perception and the ways in which both the images and the represented locations are experienced.
Cielo Stellato
Starry Sky is a project consisting of two videos: Untitled (elevator) from 2025 and Untitled (sand) from 2026.
The first is a 2-minute, 52-second looping video that creates the illusion of a starry night sky. The video was created using footage shot on the linoleum floor of a claustrophobic elevator in a Milan subway station.
The second is a video with no beginning and no end. The images are created using slow-motion footage of the black beach at Golfo Baratti. The iron-rich hematite slag makes the sand reflective in sunlight, thus creating the illusion of looking at a starry sky.
