Casagrande // Giorgini

Performative Research Duo

The Casagrande // Giorgini duo was formed in 2019 when Marco Casagrande and Nicolò Giorgini met. Their work falls within the realm of the performing arts and is developed through an interdisciplinary approach aimed at creating open, fluid, and atmospheric performative devices. Although they come from the fields of dance and choreography, they do not treat the body as the sole focal point of their compositions; rather, they view it as one of several possible tools for building relationships between space, matter, and presence. In their practice, the natural element acts as the generative force behind the compositional process: both artists’ backgrounds foster a sense of belonging to marginal territories, characterized by a strong presence of landscape and nonlinear structures.

From 2022 to 2024, they are participating in the “Incubator for Future Choreographers.” Their first project, DOT, was selected for Progetto OIKOS, NAOcrea2022, Alloggiando Art Fest, and FLIC 25. Their second production, BAIA, was developed through international residency programs, including Lavanderia a Vapore (Turin), Core Dance (Atlanta, USA), and D.ID Dance Identity (Eisenstadt, Austria), with support from Culture Moves Europe and the Goethe-Institut

Their latest work, Vorreie ca scisse la lune, is the winner of the Nuovo Grand Tour call for proposals promoted by the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris and was hosted in residence by La Briqueterie - CDCN (Paris): The project is supported by IRA Institute, Florian Metateatro, and Movimento Danza. They are co-founders of the B-ped association, which is active in the field of artistic production by artists under 35 and in the promotion of live performance. They also serve as artistic directors of Tracce A Venire, a festival operating in the Abruzzo region.

BAIA
BAIA is a choreographic project inspired by the submerged city of Baia, which explores the relationship between memory, time, and space.
For Volcanic Attitude, the duo of performers and dancers revives the Baia project – and all the reflections on an unstable territory that has been sinking and reemerging over the centuries – while sailing toward the Aeolian Islands and as they pass over the submerged Marsili volcano.
