Melina Mulas

Photographer

Melina Mulas was born and raised in a family of photographers; she learnt the trade from her mother, Antonia Mulas, and has been managing her father Ugo Mulas’s work since 1984. At the same time, she has been developing her own work in the fields of portraiture and interior photography, alongside frequent collaborations with the theatre and the fashion industry.

Since 1991, she has maintained close contact with the Tibetan Government-in-Exile in India and produced the book Il Terzo Occhio (The Third Eye), a collection of portraits of the most prominent Tibetan lamas. In 2006, she exhibited and published the same body of work in The Lamas of Tibet/Il Terzo Occhio. Since then, she has never ceased to document various aspects of the culture of the Tibetan exiled people.

She currently teaches photography at NABA (New Academy of Fine Arts) and organises educational workshops that involve groups of students in collaborative projects, often linked to the local area.

Melina Mulas lives and works in Milan.
