Projects for Volcanic Attitude

Artist in residence for Volcanic Attitude 2026.

During the festival, Stefano Graziani reflects on his past exploration of the La Fossa crater on Vulcano and his work with volcanic landscapes for the photographic project Under The Volcano and Other Stories, published in 2009.
“For me, being at the foot of the volcano means alluding to a condition that has nothing to do with the location you are in at a specific moment. There are few photographs of the volcano because I couldn't help but include them in the series; they are photographs of fog, hazy, filled with rocks and sulfur. Whatever the photographs show us, I am interested in contemplating a condition that is human—close to being in relation with a constant presence. I would also like to think of these photographs as an overlapping of visions and dreams, so they are stories without a precise beginning or end; they exist as consequences of other conditions.” (Stefano Graziani)
